CEO Series: Michael Meinhardt, President & CEO of Cloudwords

With their slogan “Translation made easy”, the San Francisco based startup Cloudwords is revamping the $30B translation market. The company competes with other startups in a highly fragmented space like MyGengo, Smartling or Lingotek as well as big “old school” translation companies such as Lionbridge Technologies and SDL.

Cloudwords OneTM service is a unified translation management system with a MongoDB NoSQL foundation. It aggregates the data across departments and versions and also handles workflow to and from translators. The technology was co-developed by former Salesforce.com CTO Craig Weissman, working as a contractor with Cloudwords co-founder (and former Saleforce.com architect) Scott Yancey. Salesforce.com CEO, Marc Benioff, is an investor and mentor to the company.

We had the chance to interview Michael Meinhardt, CEO & co-founder, in which Meinhardt talks about the company’s background, its technology and future plans. The interview is led by Martin Tantow, founder and editor-in-chief of CloudTimes.
